Server Virtualization

Server Virtualization.

Its a true money saver for an enterprise.

Few things we have to remember after virtualization (Hyper V R2):

1: Storage space
2: CPU Utilization
3: Disk IOPS

Storage space:
It becomes the hot cake. Space U allocate and forget. Its not gonna come back.
VM's with snap shots are the worst part of it.
They Eat more space than allocated to it.
Snap shots in VM are very poor in Disk utilization. Suggestion: Maintain snap shots for short periods only, else U will be in deep trouble.
If U dont stop the VM sprawl, U r in mess with storage too.

2: CPU Utilization

Many of the cases this is not a bottle neck if planning is done properly. Hardware with Huge RAM with Virtulization is a best deal for current datacenter

3: Disk Iops:

Here is the whole crux. Iops and throughput for all VM should be known well. Else buddy U better do it.
We have good tools to help us in knowing all parameters .
This tools help technically to select the candidate servers for virtualization.
Ex: MAPS, Vmware, Citrix analyser, IBM also has one.. etc

This makes our life easy.

Finally Guys "Virtualizaton Rocks"
